In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. In the proclamation, he called for all people of the United States to observe these events with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

- Host an Ice Cream Social following services one Sunday afternoon. Set up long tables with ice cream and lots of toppings, and let people make their own sundaes. Consider enlisting the youth group to organize and lead simple games for children.
- Bring ice cream to your nearest Ronald McDonald House and offer compassion and a cool treat to families battling cancer. Ask parents what their needs are and set up volunteers to respond—child care, yard maintenance, meals, etc.
- Set up shop at an area farmer’s market and serve ice cream—for free! Be sure to set out material on your service times, various ministries and upcoming events. (Note: Check in with the local association sponsoring the market for permission and regulations.)
