School's (Almost) Out!

Email this Print version

As the end of school nears, the spring months afford numerous opportunities to connect with students and local schools:

Gown Town Some students in your community won’t go to prom because they can’t afford a dress. Put out a call for “lightly worn” evening gowns and host a dress exchange, where girls can shop a wide selection of dresses for free. Consider partnering with a local radio station in your area.

Finals essentials Throughout finals week at a local college, station volunteers at various building entrances and pass out to students a wide variety of finals essentials (bottled water, granola bars, orange juice, cups of coffee, chewing gum, blue books, pencils and other exam necessities).

Graduation gifts Contact local school officials and offer to buy caps and gowns for needy students. Or select an underresourced school and purchase caps and gowns for the entire graduating class.

Moving day Assemble a team of volunteers and hit the college campus to help college students move out of their dorms. For seniors, offer to connect them with a church in the area to which they’re relocating.
