Last year, Canton, Ohio, homeless shelter Refuge of Hope was running out of open beds during February—one of winter’s coldest months. To help, Whipple Heights Christian and Missionary Alliance Church converted its hall into a dormitory to house some 20 homeless men. While Refuge of Hope provided a nightly supervisor, church volunteers signed up to serve coffee, fresh fruit and snacks. Others hung out with the men—even watching the Super Bowl together.
